We had our next art and architecture excursion yesterday to St. Stephan's Carhedral, and I have a bit more respect for it now. I don't relate very well to huge buildings, other than being impressed by the massivity, but learning intricate details about the structure helped build my respect. St. Stephans took hundreds of years to build, and therefore has a range of architectural styles. The main entrance is all that remains of the Romanesque church, and there is a range in the Gothic construction. For example, by the alter the ribbing on the vaulted ceilings is less ornate whereas the section closer to the entrance has a late-Gothic spider-web-like ribbing pattern. Throughout, the church has been sprinkled with gold, cherubs, and angels in the style of the counter reformation: Baroque. It is considered a bit of a history time capsule to the Viennese.
Yesterday evening I had my second piano lesson, and although I was a bit frustrated by my struggle with balancing the right and left hands, my instructor was patient, and I feel like I started to make some progress. I'll just have to keep practicing!
Today was a regular Thursday (which means I'm done at 13:00!), so this afternoon I spet some down time, and cleaned up the apartment a bit. I take after my dad and like things clean and organized to promote productivity and relaxation!
Tomorrow is Friday again! I cannot believe how quickly time here is going! Next Monday is the 21st, and the halfway point. Pretty unbelievable!
Take care, everyone!
