Today I emerged from my apartment! I hadn't really been anywhere since I got home Saturday night, and I finally had enough energy and was feeling well enough to go to class. Somehow between Saturday and today, it went from cardigan weather to wool coat and scarf weather! Wow!
We had our first excursion for my Austrian Art and Architecture class today, and we went to the Wien Museum. It is in Karlsplatz, which is a lovely park that I hadn't visited yet! There is always more to see! Our tour of the museum today covered pre-historic Vienna through the Gothic era (although we skipped discussion of the migration era). We saw some pots and daily objects from pre-history, a diagram of Vindebona (the Roman city that Vienna now sits on top of), decorative shields and armor, frescos, statues, and stained glass. My favorite though, was the 150 square foot diarama of Vienna in the mid-nineteenth century, just before the destruction of the city wall. I love those sorts of things! Much of the inner city is exactly the same.
I hope everyone is well! Much love from Wien.
Glad you are feeling better. Never fun to be sick when you are far from home.
