After German this morning my dad and I headed south for Piran, Slovenia! Yep, my dad's in town. We enjoyed the drive south, watching the sky clear up, and commenting on how we could have been driving through the Willamette Valley. It was great to chat with my dad, eat some dried mango and seaweed from Trader Joe's, and it was actually nice to ride in a car again!
As the sky cleared, there was also a noticible difference in the architecture of the houses to a more Mediterranean vibe, the houses sporting red tiled roofs. After about four hours we came around a bend, and there in front of us was the sea!
We found our hotel after a little meandering through the town. Our host greeted us and kept saying how happy he was to meet us, we beautiful Americans. What a funny man! He kept going on and blah blah blah. I had no idea what he was talking about half the time. He certainly has a lot of character!
After checking in we walked for a while in the misty darkening night until we settled on a dinner spot (all the restaurants on the sea shore looked about the same to me). We enjoyed a tasty hot meal before meandering back to the hotel, where you would think both me and my father are jet lagged! I'll blame it on a long week.
I hope all your weekends are good! Viel Liebe!
