In the Mythical Land of Bled

Max decided to show up to breakfast today, and although that resulted in us hearing way too much about his life, we enjoyed delicious breads and croissants and coffee. I also got to use my German with some fellow guests who were a little less amused by our odd host, and a little more flabbergasted. 

As we walked up the hill out of town, we enjoyed one last gaze on the calm morning sea. Piran was such an excellent little town to visit. Perhaps some day I'll go back in the summer to swim in the clear, cool Mediterranean. 

We drove out the same way we came in, but made a detour to the picturesque town and lake of Bled, Slovenia. We circled the large lake, enjoying the scenery, then explored the Bled Castle. It has a charming and mystical medieval character, and just celebrated 1000 years since the first mention of the castle. I can't begin to understand 1000 years! The castle expanded for about 700 years, but in the same Romanesque block-like structure which made me feel like I was in a fairy tale!

From there we drove back to Vienna. It was such a fun weekend with my dad, and it was great to slow down a bit and enjoy the weather and scenery that Slovenia has to offer!
